What I Actually Bought #052
MSCHF Wavy Baby, tinyjewishgirl's tiny shoes, and ghosted memorabilia
Your Selleb Sisters are reunited in our hometown of Chicago (published a Chi-town food guide last weekend — check it out here). When we’re home, our 3 go-tos are: 1) Crossroads on Clark (nostalgia + occasional discoveries & deals), 2) the movies (AMC A-Listers, go see Inside Out 2!!), and 3) The Art Institute (one of our favorite museums).
We opted for #3 this past weekend and explored Georgia O’Keeffe’s ‘My New Yorks’ exhibition — an absolute must-see if you’re in Chicago. We were intrigued by this painting below: here, O’Keeffe swaps out the name of a prominent building for her husband’s. His name glows in furious red on one end of the canvas while on the opposite end, the white smoke seethes and swirls into a storm. Could this signify a standoff? A lovers’ tiff captured in broad strokes?
Artists sending coded messages to their lovers through their work is a tale as old as time… Did you know that directors Sofia Coppola and Spike Jonze communicated with each other post-divorce through their movies Lost in Translation and Her, respectively? We love this fun fact. Subtle jab? Heartfelt sign? Discuss.
On that thought, let’s get to OUR finds, YOUR finds, and the BEST DEALS — honest reviews backed by receipts. Let’s get to it…
What I Actually Bought
MSCHF V2.WAVS and Pink Soda Socks: The MSCHF OG Wavy Baby has been on our wishlist since they released, but we snoozed and
loosedlost. Then MSCHF was in a lawsuit with Vans. Now, they’re back better than ever with the V2. Safe to say we fight over these. A lot. Got the socks too bc of the name.Siedrés x Mango top and skirt: Yes, we’ve reached peak collab fatigue, but props to Mango for doing the best it can amidst all the noise. Capsule wardrobe for Glastonbury, Lollapalooza, Outside Lands… you name it.
AeroGarden Hydroponic Indoor Garden: While our mom may be the chef de famille (read: matriarch), our dad is the chef de cuisine. A lifetime with our grandma has instilled in him a real passion for cooking and all things food (he has passed down his culinary love to us!). Whipping up delicious dishes without recipes is what he does best. He’s also a fixture at the farmers’ market, always looking for the freshest veggies, fruits, and herbs. So for Father’s Day, we got him this indoor garden with 6 different pods to grow different herbs! Consider us influenced by @liveeatlearn (nutritionist, food scientist), who shared this find with us last week here. He LOVED this gift.
Barbie Pink 5 Minute Journal: Not only is this journal hot pink (and part of an exclusive collab), but it’s also on sale too! We included this pick in last week’s sales section and then bought off our own recommendation lol. It’s the perfect
pickpink-me-up for yourself or a friend. If you’ve been following us, you know we are big journaling fiends and have been for the last 4 years. Write, invite, and manifest ;) Final sale, free 2-day shipping, 10% off with code ‘TULIP’. Let’s goooo….
Zara haul: Claire was once again inspired by her friend Sarah B. who has the best eye for basics. This Zara haul probably would not have happened otherwise (too much junk to sift through online to get to the gold; in-store options are size-constrained and pretty mid to begin with). Not the first, second or third time Claire has been influenced by Sarah. Doesn’t hurt that they are the same height/build — wardrobe twins living on different coasts.
What YOU Actually Bought
@tinyjewishgirl (fashion TikTok queen, writer at ) / Keen Big Kids’ Jasper II Sneaker (similar here and here): “I’m trying to exorcise the demon that is my princess-ness this summer and plan crunchy adventures, including trips to my grandparents’ lake house—a log cabin on top of a mountain with no electricity—and an excursion in August to the inarguably more glamorous Lake Tahoe. I wanted a shoe for my travels that would make me the quirkiest girl on the hiking trail, but that was inexpensive enough that I didn’t get all, you know… princess-y about them. When I discovered that I was a children’s 5 in shoes, I smelled a bargain and followed my nose to these colorful Keen sneakers for a steal of $65!”
@pleatherwood.jpeg (communications strategist and writer) / Biggies Bodega Cowboy Boots Ashtray (similar here here and here): “A few months ago, I reconnected with a boy from a past life (my first mistake, not my last). He was moving to Washington, D.C., and sought my impeccable taste to help decorate his new apartment. He’s from Texas, and fancies himself a misunderstood-Marlboro-smoking-city-cowboy. So when I saw this kooky silver boot-shaped lighter/ashtray/cig holder at Biggie’s Bodega in Dimes Square, I sent him a jpeg. “Omfg. Need,” he replied. I didn’t even ask the price (my second mistake, not my last) and copped it on sight. A few weeks later, I made the trip to our nation’s capital for work and brought the precious cargo, still wrapped in a red paper bag. He canceled on me an hour before our rendezvous. The antique now sits atop a stack of old GQs in my living room :)”
@alicelancaster_ (comedic actress) / Long Blonde Wig with Bangs: “I bought this wig back in December just to wear around the house. 10/10 highly recommend. I’m going to build a collection and keep them in my oven like Chloe Fineman.”
@pcvelasco (chef) / Digital Coffee Scale with Timer: ”A coffee scale with timer cause I recently got a Breville espresso machine and of course- I have entered my (almost obnoxious) barista era🙂↔️”
@juliashiplett (writer, comedian, actress, ) / Reef Cushion Rem Sandals: “Pros: They're cute, comfy and go with everything. Cons: They make a tragic farting noise when I walk because air is getting trapped under my arches. I read that if you poke holes in the insoles, it should stop the sound. So if that doesn't work, I guess I'll just have to get comfortable being known as Woman Indiscriminately Ripping Ass. 🤷🏻♀️”
