What I Actually Bought #058
Selleb refresher, wedding influencer's top wedding gift idea, and a horse tail paint brush from Kyoto
So many new friends on our Selleb Substack <3 Thank you so much for supporting us!! For the newcomers (and for those of you needing a refresher), Selleb is a community that celebrates and showcases individual taste — where every recommendation is supported by proof of purchase and personal experience.
We are NORMALIZING the sharing of receipts here at Selleb. It’s a behavior-shifting concept, and some of you have even told us — Not sure I feel comfortable sharing my receipts! The first time might feel a bit weird, just like how we once felt about sharing homes (Airbnb), cars (Uber), and clothes (Rent the Runway, The RealReal)… But if we’ve learned anything from these companies, it’s that “sharing” opens up a whole new world of experiences not possible before. For Selleb, that new world is DISCOVERY based on authentic inputs. Receipts allow us to curate feeds of products that app users have actually bought, not sponsored content motivated by monetary incentives.
With that, let’s dive into our treasure trove of OUR finds, YOUR finds, and the BEST DEALS. Here we gooo…
What I Actually Bought
Kinds of Kindess: As a Yorgos Lanthimos (The Lobster, The Favourite, Poor Things) fangirl, Chloe was very disenchanted by his latest work. A frustrating 3-hour ride consisting of 3 seemingly unrelated stories that lack depth. The attempt at humor falls flat (read: contrived and affected). The storyline is meant to confuse but convince you that there really is more underneath the hood. Tbh, the message gets lost in transmission/translation. Definitely has been getting good reviews, so if you’re a true fan, go see it in theaters and report back.
Khaite Ruffled Button Up (similar here here and here): Snagged this for $100 on eBay (retails for over $600). Crisp and romantic. The cuff details giving Mozart-meets-Brooks Brothers. Not not here for it ;)
See’s Lollipops: A sweet West Coast phenomenon. The best airplane snack or movie theatre companion. One lollipop will keep you entertained for a long time. Chloe uses these in lieu of gum because of her TMJ… yikes. Helps with nausea too. Bought these at SFO and it’s easy to chain-eat and get through these like Zyns (one in, one out).
Alexis Bittar Earrings (Golden Pebble Cake Studs and Crystal Pave Serpent Crawlers): Taking a page out of @graceatwood’s jewelry book (founder of The Stripe, Grace’s Substack, featured on Selleb in April) bc that sale alert went off and Claire was quick to jump. Olympic gold style.
Bottega Veneta Drop Leather Belt with Brass Buckle (similar here here here here and here): eBay find! Still selling online for $590. Love the shape of this buckle (a bit Brancusian) and can already envision how it’ll effortlessly ingratiate itself into both summer and fall optionalities.
What YOU Actually Bought
@jonahfeingold (writer and director) / Starbucks order: “Yes. Starbucks. I get it every day. Same order in fact.Venti iced coffee with splash of half and half. Rain. Snow. Power outages — I get it. Why? Because I'm an insane overly romantic idealist who, when I was younger, and when my parents were not divorced, they would give me sips of their iced coffee — when I was like 10. I HATED the taste, but those were happy times. Years went by, I grew up, they got divorced, I got sad, one day I had Starbucks and the taste of the iced coffee brought me back to my childhood and happiness. Like in Ratatouille— anyway — now I have it every morning and it makes me happy. In a sense, creating its own new joyful memories in the present. I also like to call it St. Arbucks (like the small local family-owned mom-and-pop French-owned cafe it is). Plus I'm friends with all the baristas there! In fact, I'm buying a cake and balloons for Chanel's last day. Anyway. That's my sin. My vice and my joy.”
@lexitobin (wedding influencer and proposal planner, NYT wedding feature here <3, ) / Rejoice and Blossom Custom Clutch: "I made this bag to wear on my wedding day and I now end up wearing it to casual dinners with friends. I love having part of my wedding dress incorporated into my everyday life, so much so that I have been getting this as a gift for my close friends on their wedding day too using their own wedding fabric! You might wonder... how do you get their wedding fabric?! I've been strategically coordinating with whoever went to the dress fitting with the bride, that way they can ask the seamstress for extra fabric. I never know what it'll end up looking like, but I just love the idea of it, and so far it's been a hit!”
@violetamaya_ (artist) / Horse Tail Paint Brush from 香雪軒: “My latest find was this massive painting brush I found in a super cute store in Kyoto!!! It’s made of horse tail hair 🦄”
@gillmils (lead esthetician and founder @skinbygill) / Eckhaus Latta Silk Worm Scrubs: “Silkworm cocoons we’ve used for exfoliation back in the day - I thought it was a cute nod to skincare history and a fun tchotchke to have on the shelf at my facial studio :)”
@sarakramersarakramer (chef and owner of Kismet LA and Kismet rotisserie, author of Kismet: Bright, Fresh, Vegetable-Loving Recipes) / Alex Eagleton PPX olive oil from Crete: “I’m a big fan of Mina Stone’s and hopefully someday we’ll be in the same place at the same time and actually meet, but til then, I’ll continue to swoon over her posts of plates of perfect simple food and highlights of trips to Greece. About a month ago, she posted that her husband was selling small batch olive oil from Crete, and I jumped on it. My boyfriend is also Greek, so it’s fun to surprise him with Greek food things when I come across them, and when he tried this oil he was like, “wow, it tastes just like horiatiki.” That’s Greek salad, to the rest of us.”
If you want to share your awesome purchase(s) and have a chance to be featured in our future newsletters, pls forward your emailed order confirmation(s) to sisters@selleb.com! Feel free to add a one-sentence review. As always, we’ll check in with you to coordinate details before we post.

Oh my god. Can we be friends? THIS IS SO GOOD. The receipt concept is beyond brilliant -- could you imagine all the creators/influencers out there posting their daily receipts? But also, pot calling the kettle black here, this practice would be revelatory for me too. I'll send one in soon :). But also, your links! This is so good and impressive and I'm elated I stumbled upon your substack! HI!
