What I Actually Bought #066
After School podcast feature, 1000mg sodium swigs, and why Supreme still reigns supreme for Job's playwright
Selleb is a discovery app (currently in beta) where you can snoop on what the coolest people on the internet are ACTUALLY (!) buying/loving/consuming — with receipts to prove it. Call it (rear) window shopping on steroids. If you’re subscribed to our newsletter, you’re also automatically on the waitlist for app access. We hit your inbox twice a week. The Sunday edition serves up anything from travel to fashion to skincare to restaurants. The Wednesday edition features 5 tastemakers sharing receipts of things they’ve recently bought and the juicy stories behind them. Past guests have included Serena Kerrigan, Willa Bennett of Highsnobiety, Throwing Fits, Junia Lin, tinyjewishgirl, sssssoupsssss, Susan Alexandra, Jason Diamond, ellapottersays, Gia Kuan, Jeremy Cohen, hellotefi, dadaeats, the creators of Industry, the founders of MSCHF, StockX, Vine, Siberia Hills, etc... (See full roster here) Do you have someone you’d like to see featured? DM or email us at sisters@selleb.com.
Last week, your Selleb Sisters hit the mic for a podcast with
, where we dished on everything — from the resurgence of middle school fashion (Reva flats and J. Crew/Crew Cuts, anyone?) to Gen Z’s wild BNPL-esque spending habits to ofc Selleb and our backstory.Casey’s been a friend since our high school blogging era (a 10+ year friendship!). Chloe even “interned'“ for her and took over Clover Letter’s (throwback!) Snapchat to report live from Lollapalooza in 2015. Fun times… Casey’s really seen us through every phase, so this podcast felt like catching up with an old friend. Take a listen ;)
ALSO: if you want to join the Selleb beta and be one of the first to check out our receipt-sharing app, please forward us email purchase confirmations to post@selleb.com (no personal information will be shown on the app). We hope that you’ll think of us every time you buy something (anything!) — the more receipts you forward, the higher you’ll move up on our list to join. In these early innings, we’re onboarding slowly and intentionally on our app to make sure we are getting the right users :)
With that, let’s get to OUR finds, YOUR finds, and the BEST DEALS for the week. Let’s do this…
What I Actually Bought
TwitterX Blue Checkmark: Chloe followed Claire’s suit and started paying up for a blue checkmark on X to increase her chances of getting responses from cold DM outreaches re: Selleb tech hires. Suffice to say, it’s been worth the extra dollars but for heaven’s sake, let’s help her get to 200 followers lol #celebratethesmallwinsSaks Labor Day Sale Haul (Rabanne here and Toteme here): Claire jumped on the Saks Labor Day sale and thought these two pieces were pretty solid deals that would earn their keep in her wardrobe rotation. Our general mantra is that you can always find a good secondhand deal, but finding an actually good deal in the firsthand sale section? Often a case of… lots of spins and few wins. Proved right once again bc the Rabanne top looks top-shelf, but it’s giving bottom-shelf feels; but alas, final sale. Meep. Will have to make this one work. Giving this haul a B- with room for redemption, i.e., won’t reach for them but may come in handy on those I-have-nothing-to-wear days. Nice-to-haves but no standing ovation.
Julietta Pink Heart Ring (their archive sale is still live here!): Been wanting a piece from Julietta for a few years now, but never enough to pay the full price. Sales are always the optimal time to taste-test a new brand (she’s sweet like candy).
LMNT Electrolytes: We’ve been seeing this brand everywhere and were skeptical of its purported benefits (read: 1000mg of sodium in one gulp). But when friends start to rave, that’s when our ears perk up. We had dinner over at our friend Amy’s, and she sold us on these packets during our post-Korean BBQ coma. Claire was torn between chocolate, mango chili, and raspberry, so she got the sampler pack to try them all before committing to one. Will report back.
Re/Done Mid Rise Baby BootJeans (similar here here and here): Ok
we’veChloe has written and raved about this specific Re/Done style in THREE separate newsletters now (here here and here). 2/3 bought for cheap on eBay and Poshmark. Snagged these latest ones for $75 (the best deal yet, as they’re $315 retail). And yes, we already DO have a pair in black, but this style is stretchy so you can probably find 2 sizes that work for you, each offering a fabulously different look. (Ok that sounded totally BS lol bc it is. Chloe got another exact same pair — in a slightly small size — bc she’s a bit extra like that 🙄 )
What YOU Actually Bought
fr1edl1ch (Broadway playwright, JOB The Play is out until 10.27 and leading lady Sydney Lemmon was featured in our newsletter here) / Supreme 2022 Doughboy Shirt (similar here here and here) : “Growing up in lower Manhattan, like a lot of white Jewish dudes in my orbit, I really liked Supreme. I loved Odd Future and my favorite movie was Kids - I was angry and horny and aspirationally rebellious. Despite loving the brand, all I owned was one snapback and one long sleeve I bought off my friend Devon. This was like 2010 -2012 era Supreme so to get the good shit you had to go sleep outside the store; online sold out instantly. I couldn't skate and I was bad at doing drugs - I knew I wasn't cool enough to be around the kids on the Supreme line. If I wore either of my two Supreme items to school I got made fun of for being a fake Hypebeast. And those kids were right - that's exactly what I was. And so I grew out of my infatuation with the brand. I moved onto clothes I could not only afford but physically purchase comfortably. But now as an adult with some disposable income I've sort of fallen in love with it again. It means something to me in a way that no other brand does. I like the quality, I like the way the clothes fit, and whenever I wear it I'm like "hell yeah, this is Supreme." When I buy a vintage Supreme shirt it reminds me that I'm comfortable with who I am now. It's weird. I really do find it oddly empowering. It's nice. Swag!!!!”
@alisonleiby (comedian, writer, co-producer on The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, cohost of @ruinedpodcast) / Green Burberry Trench from The RealReal (similar here here and here): “I have wanted a Burberry trench for many years and never pulled the trigger. I have had other great ones over the years but was never ready to throw down a month's rent on a seasonal jacket. Suddenly I realized I could just get one on The Real Real and there are SO MANY good ones. I had a TRR credit so I got a few things including this dangerously discounted green trench in perfect condition. Now if only it was under 80 degrees so I can wear it.”
@emilyjwils (food writer and author of ) / Cecily Braden CJB Pro Nephrite Gua Sha Tool: "Face puffiness from travel, work-related exhaustion, sodium excess (thank you, restaurants), and whatever else causes it is something I simply no longer want to deal with! So I finally decided to get on the gua sha train, especially because it can help eliminate wrinkles and reduce inflammation, too. My facialist Julia Barna, a bona fide skin savant whose hands work lymphatic drainage wonders, recommended Cecily Braden's CJB Pro Nephrite tool, which boasts various shapes to play with. It's on the splurgier side for a gua sha tool, but hers was the only recommendation I needed. Julia is coming on The Angel in a couple of weeks to share her Plugs, which everyone in Los Angeles should look out for (and go see her for a facial)!"
Ochuko Akpovbovbo (behind as seen on, brand marketer at Adidas, “Bookstagrammer”) / The Offing by Benjamin Myers: “Strolled into the bookstore because that’s where I usually end up anytime I leave my home—we all have our crosses to bear. I went in wanting to find a good thriller, but there are no English bookstores where I live, just sparsely stocked English sections and singular “thriller” shelves. Anyway, there were no good thrillers (allegedly in their flop era), but I did pick up this book called *The Offing* which sounds like it should be a thriller but is actually about a young man, fresh out of WWII, bonding with an eccentric old lady and having the most wholesome summer.”
@julianpaik (retail consultant and founder of Paik Studio, see her in The Cut here / KASK Mojito3 Helmet: “I’ve been riding my bike around the city without a helmet for far too long. After getting my daughter a cute pink helmet for her bike, I thought, “it’s time to live life by example.” Wish I got a matching one but my husband found this Kask one and I got the matte gray. Looks nerdy but feels good on the dome. No more ridin’ dirty .. all about ridin’ SAFE. PS - Found this at a local bike shop but they didn’t have my size - so ordered on Amazon 🥲”
If you want to share your awesome purchase(s) and have a chance to be featured in our future newsletters, pls forward your emailed order confirmation(s) to sisters@selleb.com! Feel free to add a one-sentence review. As always, we’ll check in with you to coordinate details before we post.
