This edition is a juicy one. We’re spilling the tea on all our secondhand shopping hacks in this issue. It all started with the Victoria’s Secret Pink iPhone 3GS case that our friend in the neighborhood passed down to us when she upgraded her phone.
Ok, that was like 2014, and we were just dipping our toes into the time-honored entrepreneurial traditions of babysitting and lemonade stands when one day, Claire whimsically typed into YouTube — “How to make money from your bed in 2014” — and was fed this curious clip about an up-and-coming app called Poshmark. Intrigued, she downloaded the app and posted the VS phone case. Within a few days, it sold for $6! A cheap thrill, to be sure, but it nevertheless launched a side hustle that would become a mainstay for your Selleb Sisters.
Since then, we’ve flipped and flopped through every online resale platform you can think of (yes, Mercari during its wild west phase, too). The arrival of these secondhand apps during our teen years was a game changer for yours truly because it allowed us to experiment with fashion blogging when we had limited funds. We would buy used clothes online (and thrift stores too), take pics of each other wearing them, write up blog posts to showcase the ‘fits, and then ultimately sell them online again. It was a full circle. We’ve even developed years-long relationships with sellers on Poshmark and eBay and accrued a considerable following on each platform.
All this to say, secondhand is our turf. And we’re here to share the tips and tricks that we’ve accumulated over the years to find the best secondhand deals on the internet. See below for our best finds of 2023 :)
