What I Actually Bought #041
Ex-dropout merch, Albatroz around your neck, and heirloom potatoes on Etsy
Salut. This week, your Selleb Sisters are in Paris! It’s our brother’s 21st birthday, and since he’s out here for study abroad, we rallied the tribe (including aunts and cousins) to make a trip out for une grande réunion de famille. <3 <3 <3
Paris holds a special place in our hearts because we grew up speaking French under the auspices of our stern, unforgiving, and most notably, chain-smoking French teachers. Although we sometimes fumble masculin/feminin and should practice speaking more than we do, no slights by the French (however subtle) fly under the radar for yours truly lol…There’s a warm blanket of familiarity and nostalgia with the secret languages, smells (!), and customs when we are here… enough to make it feel (a bit) like a de-facto motherland.
This upcoming weekend’s paid edition is going to be about our true love… Paris vintage stores. Not the usual suspects blasted all over IG or Vogue (no shade!) that are either peddling marked-up Gap (it’s vintage!) or the wallet-extinguishing Galliano. Finally, if you have any specific requests for a 2024 Paris guide (ie. museums, coffee shops, bistros, etc… hit our line!)
You know the drill -- OUR finds, YOUR finds, and the BEST DEALS — honest reviews backed by receipts. Let’s do this.
What I Actually Bought
Too Old For School Cap: The first three purchases from this week are all from Les Raffineurs, a cheeky one-off gift shop with a few locations sprinkled around Paris. Highly recommend checking one out if you find yourself here.
Stopped us dead in our tracks when we spotted this cap in the window display… for Claire ;) Because she took off 2 years from college and is now back at it, she really is….
Boogie Bougie Basil Candle: We would like to consider ourselves wordplay pun-dits. This was a no-brainer.
La Soeurette Mug: A perfect mug for the Little Selleb Sister, Claire. A daily reminder to save money and make coffee at home ;)
Albatroz Locomotive Choker: Our talented friend Marine is a Parisian jewelry designer who masterfully adds traditional twists to make entirely contemporary designs. This choker is off the charts?? And the name? Boom. She also recently released a new collection of rings that have us drooling.
CityPharma haul: French brands are already cheaper in Paris, but at this PARTICULAR discount pharmacy, the prices are even more glorious. Nuxe lip and hair care? Check. Klorane shampoo, conditioner, and body wash? Check. Avène face mist to maximize moisturizer absorption? Check. Our new finds: Novanuit and Cycladys. Novanuit melatonin is a
lifenight saver and jetlag remedy — you’ll be knocked out in 30 min! Cycladys because it’s that time of the month. Nothing to see here.
What YOU Actually Bought
@rachel_loaf (creator and chef) / Heirloom Potatoes from Four Oak Farm via Etsy: “I have a lot of guilt around buying things to make myself feel better so nowadays I justify it to myself by making barely practical purchases of unique fruits and vegetables to plant in my garden. These heirloom potatoes cost $5 each + shipping but are so pretty, and if all goes according to plan they’ll make for some gorgeous fall dishes (herby pink potato salad?? 🥺).”
@ang.koh (market editor at NY Times Magazine) / @arielisgood tattoo: “I've been trying to come up with a cute tattoo idea of my 2 biggest obsessions, my dog Biggie and Sanrio which evolved into the greatest collab - Biggie x Pochacco. I went to my favorite NYC artist (she did a Totoro tattoo for me a few years ago), Arielisgood, and she nailed my vision. Biggie, of course, came to the appointment as moral support.”
@kelseykeith (creative director at Herman Miller, writer
/ Mini Rodini Violas Curtains: “I find most curtains to be criminally boring and so have never bought any for myself, an adult. I got these for my baby daughter’s room, and might just have to co-opt them.”
@jessicaneises (editor at Vanity Fair) / Vacation Sunscreen: “Before a recent winter getaway to Jamaica I bought the Vacation whipped sunscreen. I was almost freakishly nervous about it being confiscated from my carry on, given it being 4 fl. oz., but we successfully made it through! Leading up to the trip, I told pretty much anyone who would listen about how excited I was to use this sunscreen to the point of embarrassing, and maybe even more annoying now that I'm gushing about it again here, but I don't care... it's cute! It's silly! It makes sunscreen fun to put on! Is it effective?.. I'm not sure if I can 100% say because I still burnt to a crisp, but I blame my lack of sun exposure and piña colada-induced poor reapplication skills for that, not the sunscreen. Never my beloved whipped sunscreen.”
@lilahsummer (model) / Frenchies French Twist Hair Pins: “They are felted hair pins for buns, in blonde!! They stay in your hair all day and can make a very chic bun”
