What I Actually Bought #042
€4 perfume samples, therapist & her 23andMe kit, and fresh rice flown from Korea
Greetings fashion-forward friends. Hot off the press from this past weekend is our part 1 guide to Paris designer vintage (see here). For us, vintage fashion is an asset class all on her own. That’s why scoring the one-of-a-kind, pristine condition Pucci coat last week, designed by Mr. Pucci himself for his Florentine muse back in the day (it is n of 1!) kind of shook us on a cellular level. This wasn’t just a find; it was a discovery with some responsibility — a piece requiring a fresh infusion of energy that also needed to be preserved for posterity. Your Selleb Sisters landed a true heirloom keepsake that we’ll safekeep for the next gen. Please stay tuned for part 2 of Paris designer vintage this weekend <3
Last week, we popped into the good old Buly (basic but divine) on our family walk. Their packaging is truly exquisite; even their toothpaste looks regal. Not our cousin mistaking it for hand cream and lavishly applying it all over her hands (and then Claire’s) 😂 — a black ice moment? We had featured Buly’s luxe lip balm in one of our gift guides, and as a testament to life imitating art newsletter, our aunt gifted them to us on this trip. A palette of colors at your behest, monograms to personalize, and a pouch to crown the experience. Indulgence redefined…
You know the drill -- OUR finds, YOUR finds, and the BEST DEALS — honest reviews backed by receipts. Here we go…
What I Actually Bought
Nose Samples: As self-proclaimed scent cognoscenti, we stopped by this quintessential perfume shop to get a whiff of their newest fragrances. Warning: the relentless misting inside the store might hit you with a wave of nausea or a headspin. The associates here boast refined scent-sibilities, so it would be a missed opportunity not to pepper them with a gazillion questions… Not ready to commit? Sample sizes are yours for €4 a pop. A clever (on-the-nose) strategy, as most return, wallets in hand, for the full experience.
Caudalie Vinoperfect Dark Spot Treatment: We love budget options like diaper rash cream, but there’s something about this OG serum that pulls us back, time and time again. Snagging one at half the usual price in her homeland? Resistance is futile. She does wonders for acne scars.
L’as du Fallafel: Our sanctuary for falafel when we’re in Paris. Prime refuel spot in the heart of the Marais, especially after hours of exploration in that area (soo much to see!). Midday lunch lines here stretch and snake, so go for a late afternoon snack instead and share a falafel plate. We can eat this every day.
Bensimon Addicted to Love tee: For Claire lol. Chloe needs some of this energy ;)
Maison Thevenin Croissant: As croissant fanatics, we had to include at least ONE receipt from Paris! Trust us when we say there were 3-4 croissant receipts per day ;) but alas, this boulangerie is one of our favs (Chloe used to come here daily during her study abroad quarter in Paris). Their croissants are so fluffy and flaky. Perfect amount of butter and a glorioussss first bite. Make sure to go to the location on Rue de Buci though— other satellites are not as good!
What YOU Actually Bought
@ageorama (model & creator) / Depop Matching Bloomers Set: “It reminded me of a 1950s swimsuit so I impulsively purchased....classic lmao. But it was handmade, the girl literally followed me already so I wanted to support, and it fits so well so 0 regrets :))))”
@christineyi (founder of CY Eats and food blogger) / Kim’C Market Rice Sampler (flown in from Korea and freshly milled-to-order in Brooklyn, NY): “Love this store Kim'C Market as they're selling incredible quality, authentic, delicious ingredients, many of which the owner/buyer met with the purveyors & farmers in Korea, learned their amazing stories & history, and have figured a way to bring them to the US.”
@annapolons (founder of @polonskyandfriends, writer at
) / Schott Leather Biker Jacket (similar here here and here): “I often get fixated on hunting very specific items and recent obsessions were vintage Schott clothing as well as fringed suede jackets (browsed all of Nashville’s second hand stores for the latter, unsuccessfully). Then a couple weeks ago, I found this jacket, the best of both worlds (Schmitt ✔️ suede ✔️ fringes ✔️) on Vestiaire Collective. Determination and patience!”
@misscleoviolet (co-founder @mybarriere formerly @saks @modaoperandi / Antique Silver Mesh Chatelaine Coin Purse from Etsy: “Lately I've been very into functional accessories and have started collecting a variety of vintage chatelaines — everything from keys and scissors to writing utensils and perfume bottles, to wear around my neck or waist. The most recent addition to my collection was this vintage silver mesh coin purse from 1910 that is just big enough to fit my key fob and a pack of listerine strips!”
@millenialmindfulnessdoc (DBT and CBT therapist) / 23andMe Kit: “this was my most recent impulse purchase. I’m very much so of Eastern European “ashkenazi” descent, duh lol. I was listening to a WWII book on audible (my niche interest/passion) and I was like what if I low key have some chic French in me. Immediately purchased. So nervous to use!”
If you want to share your awesome purchase(s) and have a chance to be featured in our future newsletters, pls forward your emailed order confirmation(s) to sisters@selleb.com! Feel free to add a one-sentence review. As always, we’ll check in with you to coordinate details before we post.
