What I Actually Bought #063
An app that spits out the best color scheme for your skin tone, StockX co-founder's collectibles, and Alaia x Louis Vuitton bag for your BFF
Selleb is a discovery app (currently in beta) where you can snoop on what the coolest people on the internet are ACTUALLY (!!!) buying/loving/consuming — with receipts to prove it. Call it (rear) window shopping on steroids. If you’re subscribed to our newsletter, you’re also automatically on the waitlist for app access. We hit your inbox twice a week. The Sunday edition serves up anything from travel to fashion to skincare to restaurants. The Wednesday edition features 5 tastemakers sharing receipts of things they’ve recently bought and the juicy stories behind them. Past guests have included Serena Kerrigan, Willa Bennett of Highsnobiety, Throwing Fits, Junia Lin, tinyjewishgirl, sssssoupsssss, Susan Alexandra, Jason Diamond, ellapottersays, Gia Kuan, Jeremy Cohen, hellotefi, dadaeats, the creators of Industry, the founders of MSCHF, StockX, Vine, Siberia Hills, etc... (See full roster here) Do you have someone you’d like to see featured? DM or email us at sisters@selleb.com.
Fall is a season of rebirth and reinvention. After 3 months of being scantily clad, we’re not mad about covering up and waving goodbye to those overworn (and summer-stained) white nothings and bringing out the long-neglected statement pieces hibernating somewhere in the back of our closets. For your Selleb Sisters, there’s no better season for creative dressing (hello endless layering possibilities) than fall. To anoint and greet it with open arms, we’re experimenting with a new color palette app (see below) to find the hues that best complement our natural undertones — a tip that will undoubtedly come in handy for all the fun dressing opps that lay ahead. Yes, we are hitting the college campus circuit to promote our app, but weddings and milestone birthday celebrations also await yours truly. Stay tuned for inspo…
With that, let’s get to OUR finds, YOUR finds, and the BEST DEALS for the week. Let’s do this…
What I Actually Bought
Twisters movie: Obviously had to watch bc Daisy Edgar-Jones (Normal People) and Glenn Powell (Anyone but You + other rom-coms + Scream Queens, anyone??). A solid flick. A feel-good movie about ordinary folks doing extraordinary things. Daisy E-J as the (obliviously) beautiful meteorological wunderkind; GP as the (obviously) hot, storm-chasing male influencer who also happens to have a brain and heart if you just take a moment to see past the biceps lol. No spoilers will be provided, but let’s just say there’s definitely an element of Victorian chaste in the movie. Chemistry sizzles beneath the surface; their future together is left teasingly ambiguous. Expect occasional laugh-out-loud moments and some eye rolls after the fourth/fifth tornado (think Dune’s never-ending sandstorms but windier).
Cinema Secrets Professional Brush Cleaner: Claire’s been hearing multiple makeup artists on set rave about this brush cleaner, so naturally, she had to give it a whirl! Definitely a step up from the usual soap and water routine. All the gunk washed right off and the brushes smelled fresh and felt like new after.
Rigor Hill Haul: We’d been Rigor Hill stans since they were just a farmers’ market stand on Tuesdays. Love to see them (and their produce) growing. Their coffee is increds too ;) And the Good Booch Kombucha is a hell yeah for us.
Ross J Barr Patch Pack: Been dying to try these patches because we kept hearing/reading about them. Violet Grey had a 25% off sale last week and never hit add to cart so fast. This is the variety pack formulated by an acupuncturist to promote “calm, sleeping, and healing.” Period cramps, stress, insomnia… Like, that’s fixing 98% of Selleb Sisters’ issues…
Style DNA App: Chloe’s friends in the Bay were buzzing about this app that claims to pinpoint the colors that’ll enhance your “natural beauty.” Snap a selfie in natural light, and voilà — it generates a custom color palette just for you. It’s $14.99 for 3 months and if you want the full color palette, that’s extra, of course. Kind of fun though?? Feels like a horoscope or Myers Briggs reveal lol. Will do a trial run to see if this truly adds value to our clothing permutations.
What YOU Actually Bought
@joshluber (co-founder of StockX and Fanatics Collectibles, currently ghostwrite) / 1983 Galoob The A-Team Mr. T BA Baracus Action Figure (similar here here and here): "I'm a collector. I collect sneakers and trading cards and clothes and hats and startup co-founders and toys. I have collectible toys and designer toys and vinyl toys and vintage toys, and more. I have Star Wars and He-Man and Transformers and G.I. Joe and Thunder Cars and Volton and more, but I'm always looking for toys from culturally significant shows and movies. If you look hard enough, you'll find that almost every great story put on TV or film has had an action figure somewhere along the way. I have pieces from Indiana Jones and The Temple of Doom, Butch Cassidy and The Sundance Kid, Welcome Back Kotter, The Matrix, Sons of Anarchy, Breaking Bad, Cheers, Lost, Dodgeball, Nacho Libre, Labyrinth, The Fifth Element and more. And about a year ago I found Hannibal, Face and Murdock - i.e., three of four members of The A-Team. And so when B.A. Baracus AKA Mr. T AKA the fourth and most heavily-chained A-Team member popped up on eBay, it was obviously mine. I love it when a plan comes together."
@blakeabbie (actor (Bling Empire, Meteor Garden), editor) / Auveco rivets: “Building a new set of foraged bamboo shelves, couldn’t find this particular size of rivets so had to order, normally used for automotive building, rivets make a great fastening for furniture. Couldn’t find the brand name, but found the same manufacturer/parts through some numbers on this box.”
@alilabelle (creative director, strategist, ) / Donni The Pointelle Crop Pant (similar here here and here): “I am literally wearing these super-soft, could-be-pajama-pants Donni pants (my second pair!) as I type this — they are my absolute favorite things to put on my body.”
@isabellamlucio (writer and stylist) / Alaia x Louis Vuitton Alma Bag (similar here here and here): "My most recent purchase was an Alaia for Louis Vuitton Alma bag. My best friend, Quinn Mora, notoriously buys me the best birthday gifts. She combines impeccable taste with sentiment, and charm, every single time. I have wanted an Alaia LV bag for years and when I found one for this price I knew I had no choice but to purchase it. But of course I called Quinn to do so. We were on the phone, gossiping and rationalizing, her from Spain, me from Mercari’s checkout page, when she fell silent and my Apple Pay dinged, “New balance $499.00” Quinn said she was yet come up with anything and my birthday had just passed two days prior, so this made it “easy” for her. She even let me have the joy of completing my transaction right then and there, satiating my wretched little shopping addiction... This is an official love letter to both her and my new bag, and I suppose it’s a 2 for 1? What someone else actually bought… for me.”
@ruthiefrieds (founder @atlargeagency, co-founder @thechain, prev @instylemagazine @elleusa @therow @chanelofficial) / Leset Yoko Pocket Pant: “There's nothing I have ever bought from this brand that I've regretted. Mainly because this shit is so fucking comfortable. When I saw these pants were coming in red, I actually pre-ordered them. I never pre-order. But I knew they'd sell out. I've worn them more times than anything else in this month's period of time owning them. I've worn them with a black silk evening coat from The Row, I've worn them with a vintage tee, and I've worn them to bed... I'm relatively sure I could live in these.”
If you want to share your awesome purchase(s) and have a chance to be featured in our future newsletters, pls forward your emailed order confirmation(s) to sisters@selleb.com! Feel free to add a one-sentence review. As always, we’ll check in with you to coordinate details before we post.
