What I Actually Bought #069
Upstate apple-core-core, Kareem of SubwayTakes shares, and fake sunscreen on Amazon
Selleb is a discovery app (currently in beta) where you can snoop on what the coolest people on the internet are ACTUALLY (!) buying/loving/consuming — with receipts to prove it. Call it (rear) window shopping on steroids. If you’re subscribed to our newsletter, you’re also automatically on the waitlist for app access. We hit your inbox twice a week. The Sunday edition serves up anything from travel to fashion to skincare to restaurants. The Wednesday edition features 5 tastemakers sharing receipts of things they’ve recently bought and the juicy stories behind them. Past guests have included Serena Kerrigan, Willa Bennett of Highsnobiety, Throwing Fits, Junia Lin, tinyjewishgirl, sssssoupsssss, Savannah Engel, Susan Alexandra, Jill Demling, Jason Diamond, ellapottersays, Gia Kuan, Jeremy Cohen, hellotefi, dadaeats, the creators of Industry, the founders of MSCHF, StockX, Vine, Siberia Hills, Café Forgot etc... (See full roster here) Do you have someone you’d like to see featured? DM or email us at sisters@selleb.com.
Your Selleb Sisters are fully aware that we’ve been indulging (perhaps a bit excessively) in all things fall the last several editions — pumpkin spice crazes, peaking apple-picking desires, rust-hued leaves, October’s golden glow, and every variation in between — flooding your already fall-drenched, Charli-XCX-festooned inboxes. But can we just take one final swing at it? In the name of apple-core-core??
So every fall, we lament not having enough time to escape the Big Apple for that quintessential “fall moment” in upstate NY. This past weekend, we finally made the (Am)trek up to Hudson.
We were super excited that Jenni Kayne’s team invited us to check out their newly finished Farmhouse nestled in Hudson Valley, and wow… just wow. The space felt cottage cozy but looked distinctly elegant and minimalist, with each room decorated in Jenni’s signature calm, subdued style. Loved the warm tones, the natural materials, and the rustic charm to mirror Hudson’s lush landscape… Enjoyed some serious zen home (and greenhouse!) inspo PLUS fall activities to accompany/amplify (see below).
Also stopped by Field + Supply (founded by interior designer Brad Ford), which held its 10th annual market (everything from home to beauty to fashion products from over 250 local artisans and brands), where we savored a healthy dose of apple cider and crisp Hudson air (20 degrees colder than the city, damn). Itch scratched.
With that, let’s get to OUR finds, YOUR finds, and the BEST DEALS for the week. Let’s do this…
What I Actually Bought
Potter’s Table: Bought from various Field + Supply market vendors, but our favorite finds were these seeded flatbreads from Potter’s Table (hand-rolled and GF!). The perfect amount of crunch — have since paired with hummus, baba ghanoush, and truffle moliterno. Will be ordering them again for gifts this holiday season (the packaging doesn’t miss a beat either).
Fake Round Lab Sunscreen (real one HERE lol): Chloe accidentally bought fake sunscreen from Amazon. This is a REMINDER to always fully read product descriptions before buying (bc Amazon sells fake sh*t too). The packaging is SO similar and Round Lab was sold out on Amazon so the fake version was the first listing… Chloe only realized because the texture felt very different and then she re-read the sneaky product listing; the reviews confirmed it was fake and the buyers were breaking out w/ this sunscreen. Return initiated…
Timeless Pearly Heart Cuff (similar here and here, Linda’s Stuff is a very reliable eBay seller): Successful eBay offer! We strike again. Been eyeing this cuff for a while since it launched at $450. A chunky statement that we’ve been donning with our sweats and slacks. Might go for the green one next…(Spoiler alert: we did 😬)
Timeless Pearly Heart Cuff (part deux): Claire couldn’t stop swiping said bracelet above from Chloe, so she pounced on a green version from eBay (Linda’s Stuff) once again. Was bound to happen anyway; Selleb Sisters’ hers & hers matching items are always pink & green <3 Wait but side note, these are actually so fricking cute and add a little pizzazz to any look.
A Different Man at Nitehawk Cinema: BK’s answer to London’s Electric Cinema. Full service + dine-in. You literally write your order on tiny slips of paper that get collected during the movie (will say this gets kind of frustrating bc it’s so hard to see in the theater). But don’t miss the truffle popcorn. Loved this movie (despite plot holes, weird time jumps, periods of stagnation lol) bc it’s one of those movies that you think about for days after… A push to face yourself head-on and not make excuses. You are your best friend and worst enemy. Comparison is indeed the thief of joy.
What YOU Actually Bought
@kareem of @subwaytakes / Kartell White Componibili (on sale!): “I needed nightstands that were not too expensive, not too heavy, and very durable. I hate assembling furniture so this seemed like a great option and if I ever decide to get different nightstands I am sure these things will come in handy in my kitchen or my office!"
@emmaleighmacdonald (chef (has cooked at Early June, MIMI, St Jardim, LaLou, etc…), editor, writer) / Flore Flore Navy May Camisole (on sale here and here in diff colors): “I work primarily as a chef, on the pop-up series Mon Petit Canard and events that my partner and I run together. Dressing like myself in the kitchen is important, but so is ventilation and machine-wash-ability! A rotation of Flore Flore tanks like this one have been in constant rotation this summer as they work on the line / piping choux but also look chic.”
@gabesemeraro (designer — has worked at Versace, Proenza Schouler, Lanvin) / Maison Margiela Striped Cotton Jumper (similar here here and here): “I bought the Margiela sweater because it perfectly represents my constant search for classic pieces with an unexpected twist. I’m drawn to items that, at first glance, seem basic but reveal unique details and construction upon closer inspection. This sweater, with its colorful stripes and apparent simplicity, is the kind of piece I can easily mix and reinterpret, making it my own.”
@brigittecrisp (art director, consultant, creator) / VintageClub99 Glass Light Fixture: “so I finally got my own apartment and the first order of business is building out a custom closet room because duh. I’ve been searching for the perfect light fixture and came across this gorg flower like smoked glass hanging light and ordered it from Serbia. I’m thinking about painting my ceiling pink so if that happens I’ll send more pics 💋”
@lindysegal (freelance beauty editor and the one behind
Gatekeeping) / TRR haul (Emme Parsons and The Elder Statesman): “TRR's final sale always makes me nervous, but sometimes you've got to risk it to get the biscuit. I always lust after The Elder Statesman cashmere, and this rugby style is SO ME I could squeal. And it was an extra 50% off, so it was less than $200. I'm only human! The shipping fee is so high that I always try to get more than one thing to justify it, and these Emme Parsons loafers were calling my name too. They retail in the $500 range and were down to $62. (I'm sorry to this seller, who will basically earn enough for a sandwich.) It's just two things, but already I can feel my academia-core fall starting to take shape!”
