What You Actually Bought
Alex of nolitadirtbag (also behind ) / Vintage Starbury One (similar here and here): “I recently moved into a new apartment and needed a little trinket holder. I thought a fake gold one for 7 dollars was perfect. I also needed some art to fill the walls and couldn't find any tasteful movie or music posters that would signal my extensive niche cultural knowledge to my guests so I began making a collage for my favorite Knick's player Stephon Marbury. While making it I saw that Stephon was eyeing to revive his affordable basketball shoe line, Starbury, next year. I had a pair of these "iconic" $15 shoes when I was in 7th or 8th grade. They fell apart within months but are still my favorite basketball shoe I've ever worn. So I went hunting for a pair in my size and found one in the exact colorway I used to have. This was also the first time I saw "RARE VINTAGE" to describe something I had as a middle schooler so there's that. This pair is already crumbling even though they've never been worn and I don't think I'll really wear them unless it's to the Knicks championship parade whenever that happens.”
@isaisafloral (artist and florist) / Emily Thompson Flowers: “My most favorite recent purchase is another florists book -she’s my mentor, someone who I loved working for, and it’s an incredibly wonderful and inspiring book.”
@pauluschkaa (fashion designer and behind ) / Miu Miu Black Rhinestone Heels (similar here and here): “Those babies are MiuMiu and I hunted them down in my size for 4 years on all reselling platforms possible to find them for a bargain price a couple weeks ago! Shoes are definitely my weak spot”
(audio producer of Hard Fork, behind ) / Stand-Up Magic Tickets: “Lately people have started to approach me with a very specific dating question: What should they do for a second or third date? I interpret the question to be motivated by a desire for something more novel than dinner or drinks, but still low-stakes, low-pressure, low-expense. A few months ago, I caught a show that gave me a very good answer: You should go on a date to Stand-Up Magic. The basic premise of the show is in the title: A small cast of comedians and magicians take turns performing. The show happens every other week at The Gutter, in NYC, but they also tour a few times a year all around the country! It's great because there's just enough audience engagement that you feel like you're participating rather than just viewing, you can talk to your date between sets, it's not too pricey, and the magic is truly NUTS. I have never been a magic fan. I'm the kind of person that rolls my eyes at sleight of hand tricks and says things like: oh come on it's not that impressive. But some of the mentalist magic at this show - especially performed by Max Davidson - was so unbelievable in the sheer amount of skill and memory it took to pull off that, for the first time ever, I saw magic as an art rather than a gimmick.”
(behind , co-host of Hip Replacement with (we were their first guests! see here)) / Jonathan Anderson x Uniqlo Shorts & Socks: “When this was announced, I tweeted that the shorts look was me because...it is me — in my delulu mind. My style for the past fifteen or so years has been a variation of school boy that is turning more and more direct, which the shape of these shorts offered a new way into: slacker Euro school boy. So I literally went to my local Uniqlo with my partner Bobby, to see the collection in person, and I walked out of the store with a white, green, and navy version of the shorts along with two of the tube socks, all things I already have versions of, which I hate, but I don't have it in this wider cut. About a year ago, I stopped buying clothes to unplug from consumerism and capitalism, etc. and to make more informed choices about clothing (and all products), to make sure everything I buy are things that I want to have with me for life. It worked, as I only ended up only getting like five vintage items for the whole of 2024. These shorts are my first "new clothes" purchase in well over a year, as I was looking to invest in affordable but quality winter shorts — and Jonathan delivered! They're a little lightweight, sure, and I would love it if they were a touch longer, yeah, but the oversized nineties of it all is cute. Jonathan, we need a version in denim though! Granted...I can make a pair like that with an old pair of jeans or find a vintage version online. In time! Your wardrobe and your style are a marathon, not a sprint.”
