What I Actually Bought #046
I told ya what I actually bought, rainbow tteok coat, and soft services for hard-working hands
Greetings from coast to coast, where Claire just wrapped up her junior year in DC (!!! and is now working 24/7 on Selleb) and Chloe is reconnecting with friends and founders in Palo Alto (w/ some requisite trips down memory lane).
As most of you know, this newsletter is a sneak preview of what to expect on the Selleb app — namely, (you guessed it) RECEIPTS. For those just joining us, Selleb is the first product discovery platform powered by purchase receipts. In the world of incentivized and sponsored content, we’re building an intentional, opt-in shopping community where members must show receipts to recommend products. The way it works: Forward us an email confirmation of a purchase order, and our system will turn it into a fully-fledged post of the product(s) you’ve purchased so you can share product ideas with other members.

Our Mother’s Day missive went out this past weekend to give you guys some gift ideas. This weekend, we are back on our regular schedule to bring you London Vintage Part 2 ;) Stay tuned.
Ok let’s now get to — OUR finds, YOUR finds, and the BEST DEALS — honest reviews backed by receipts. Let’s do this…
What I Actually Bought
Challengers Movie: Nothing life-changing but 1) liked that Luca Guadagnino wasn’t trying to hit us over the head with a message, 2) greattt soundtrack w/ Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross of The Nine Inch Nails, and 3) felt very on-brand to be watching this movie in Stanford’s backyard that is Palo Alto (the characters are Stanford tennis recruits lol). Fun fact: The writer of Challengers is married to Celine Song of Past Lives ! Coincidence that this couple is both serving up love triangle drama?? Not! Who else wants the ‘I Told Ya’ shirt… Loewe released an exclusive capsule that’s very enticing. Or get it here on Etsy for less than a 10th of the price…
Rachel Antonoff Rainbow Puffer (similar here here and here): Spotted a chic woman in Chelsea (see below) cozied up in this striped sensation that reminded us of 1) our favorite character from our childhood book — anyone remember The Case of Bad Stripes? and 2) rainbow tteok (Korean rice cake dessert with just a perfect hint of sweetness; see below). Approached the aforementioned fashionista seconds after taking the below pic and initiated a “I-love-the-x-that-you’re-wearing” chat… She graciously peeled off her coat, offered up the brand name, and added: Get size L for a fabulously oversized fit. In mere minutes, Claire tracked one down on Poshmark, volleyed a few offers & counteroffers, and secured the beauty for just under $90 (originally $500!). The magic of IRL discovery + internet bargain hunting = jackpot.
Soft Services Theraplush : Punny. We love the name. 5 people in the past month have sent us receipts for Soft Services (see below for 2 of them). Then, we saw
of (and previous guest) plug it in her newsletter. Founder Rebecca Zhou is also sending us a receipt for a future edition. It was a sign! It’s retinol for the hands, and God knows Claire needs this for her notoriously reptilian hands lol. Consider this her rescue mission. (She’s also looking cute on the bedside table.)
Country Sun Natural Foods: The Erewhon of Palo Alto lol. TG for the two loyal customers who saved it from closing <3 They have a stellar snack and supplement selection. Feast your eyes (and stomach) on Chloe’s haul: 1) Scottish oats (makes for a creamy and thick porridge), 2) Dram (So yum but rarely see any IRL stockists so this was a treat — skip the mushroom cola though (bleh) but the other two are pantry staples), 3) Nora’s Spicy Tempura Seaweed Snacks (absolutely addicting — on the same level as onion Chomperz).
Pizza My Heart: A Stanford institution dating back to the 80s. Chloe used to come here pre- and post- darties during college. She and one of her BFFs (since freshman orientation!) ran it back this week… always hits.
What YOU Actually Bought
@sluttycooking (chef) / nemat Vanilla Musk, Amber, & Sandalwood perfume oils from Rainbow Bridge Market in Ojai: “I mix all 3 of them, Vanilla on my neck, amber on my wrists & sandalwood on my elbow joints.. the smells are less overwhelming than most alcohol or water based perfume sprays, but last on the skin way longer.”
@itsclaudiaclark (writer (debut novel coming out soon 👀) and her IG moodboard is a VIBE if you haven’t seen it before) / Couto Mint Toothpaste: “A nice zingy minty taste, wrapped in 30's pretty packaging to make the mundane, easily overlooked tasks like brushing one's teeth, feel special.”
@oo0000oo0 (multidisciplinary artist) / Evan Healy Skincare (body butter, rose vetiver moisturizer, calming serum): “I've been using this brand ever since I experienced a wild acne breakout after going off of the pill when I was in my early 20s. I like clean beauty products, and it's all natural and the ingredients are very high quality and simple. I venture out to other skin care brands here and there, but I find myself always returning to my trusty Evan Healy even many years later. It remains the backbone of my skincare routine.”
@quintonmulvey (hospitality consultant) / Levoit Air Purifier: “I currently live with two cats even though I’m allergic to them, so a friend suggested I install an air purifier in my room to help manage the allergens in the air. The purifier market is nuts and the chic ones are so expensive, so I opted for this mid-tier Levoit one to test the waters and see if it makes a real difference. So far so good.”
@joycejjoyce_ (design and creative consultant, writer of ) / Soft Services Theraplush (case in point!!!): “I had been waiting to purchase this, as it was always sold out every time I tried! I finally got mine, and love having it be encased in a beautiful object that I keep on my bedside table, and it’s a good way to remind myself to moisturize before I get into bed each evening.”
If you want to share your awesome purchase(s) and have a chance to be featured in our future newsletters, pls forward your emailed order confirmation(s) to sisters@selleb.com! Feel free to add a one-sentence review. As always, we’ll check in with you to coordinate details before we post.
